Le projet est-il utopique ?
Un beau projet
Pour l’assocition Eurosolar, avec à sa tête le député allemand Hermann Scheer, le projet DESERTEC est utopique.
Dans un communiqué de presse intitulé « Power stations in the desert : Castles in the air built on sand » publié en Mars 2009, le projet est ouvertement remis en cause.
Udo Paschedag, du Ministère Fédéral pour l’Environnement en Allemagne, a confié au magazine « natur&kosmos » en Septembre 2008 que, « trois génération d’ingénieur seraient nécessaire à l’achèvement du projet DESERTEC. »
Selon Eurosolar, il faut préférer le développement décentralisé des énergies renouvelables pour atteindre l’objectif souhaité par DESERTEC :
"The enormous cost associated with this project is also worth mentioning. It is estimated at around €400 billion in the German Aerospace Center (DLR) study called „TRANS-CSP TransMediterranean interconnection for Concentrating Solar Power“. It is unclear so far how and where to find this enormous amount of money. The same is true of refinance. A project this size has never been executed before, so potential supporters will be reluctant to financially back a scheme this risky. We can see it already today when offshore projects in the North Sea are delayed or even abandoned because the banks involved are lacking capital. "
Il apparaît bien que la remise en cause de la réalité du financement d'un tel projet rejoint la controverse liée à la centralisation des équipements.
